Power Rangers Season 1 Episode 50 - Return Of An Old Friend Part 2

So, the Rangers DO have parents, Rita finally decided to kidnap them, Goldar got the Dragon Dagger and now has control of the DragonZord, the Rangers had to give up their Power Coins to save their parents, Goldar double-crossed them, but Jason still has the Green Coin and Tommy's back. Whew. And the only part anyone cares about is the last one. Let's move on.

-------------------------------

We start off at the Command Center with the group forming a plan. Kim questions what the point is in having Tommy's Power Coin is if Tommy's powers are pretty much gone. That's a valid question, Zordon! No, don't distract them Alpha, you found their parents last episode! Someone answer Kim's question! Zordon just gets Alpha to teleport Tommy to the Command Center. Prick.

After gloating and nonsense from Rita and crew, Tommy arrives and Jason gives him back his Power Coin. Tommy wants to help, but obviously can't because of his lack of powers. Zordon decides to infuse Tommy with some of his own energy, but not only could that hurt them both, it would only be a temporary fix, meaning the powers could disappear during a fight. Tommy agrees to it, of course.

After Goldar summons the DragonZord again to attack Angel Grove (and I do like the slightly warped version of the flute music when Goldar plays it), Zordon transfers enough of his power to Tommy to transform him back into the Green Ranger. He teleports to where the others met up with Goldar, who places both the Power Coins and Dragon Dagger on a pedestal and dares Tommy to come get it, Putties arriving to head him off. Since he's not at full strength, Tommy can't take on fifty Putties solo like he used to. Zordon tries to transfer more power to Tommy, but the others tell him not to, since too much power loss could kill him. They eventually give in and Zordon sends more power to Tommy. It's enough for him to fend off the Putties, but he still has a problem with Goldar. Tommy manages to grab the Dragon Dagger, but the backlash hurts him pretty badly. He does get to call off the DragonZord though.

The situation quickly changes once Goldar and Scorpina take on the DragonZord in giant form. Surprisingly, the DragonZord handles them both fairly easily solo. Looks like it regained a bit of its badass cred. Zordon's power drops dangerously low, so the Rangers try to bring Tommy back to the Command Center. Goldar and Scorpina disappear to stop Tommy from grabbing the Power Coins. At the last second, Tommy grabs the Power Coins before being teleported away to the Command Center.

Once there, Tommy demorphs and remains unconscious. To make things worse, Zordon has expended so much energy that he's disappeared. Billy and Alpha get the idea of transferring their power to Zordon to bring him back. They do so and Zordon is back, safe and sound. Rita sends Dramole back out, and somehow, destroying him will free the Rangers' parents. Sure, why not? The Rangers morph and head out to fight the Dramole.

The Dramole quickly uses its gas again (which someone switches day to night), taking control of everyone except Kimberly. After Tommy spontaneously floats to his feet, the Rangers start acting like zombies and attack Kimberly. No, they don't rip her apart and eat her brains, but they do shuffle and groan a lot. We find out that Tommy grabbing the Power Coins recharged his powers, meaning he can morph again. He does so and saves the others, breaking the mind control and making it daytime, somehow. Rita makes Dramole grow, so Tommy summons the DragonZord and the others summon the DinoZords to form the MegaZord.

They fight the Dramole for a bit and get their asses soundly kicked. Huh. The DragonZord then fights the Dramole solo and suddenly does a better job. I'm confused...then they form the MegaDragonZord...but instead form the DragonZord Battle Mode. And then they form the UltraZord even though they're in the wrong combination! Someone screwed up the editing for these episodes. They fire everything and finish it off. Rita gets upset, as usual, with Goldar vowing revenge, as usual.

Back at the Command Center, the group receives the news that their parents are back safe and sound, with no recollection of what happened. Tommy's powers are back, but they're only temporary and could give out on him at any time. Knowing this, Tommy agrees to return to the group as the Green Ranger. The group then heads back to the Juice Bar to finish Parents Day.

Once there, all the Rangers gush over their parents, with Kim's worries about her parents not caring about her quickly gone. She then brings over Tommy for the oh-so-fun experience of meeting the parents. Bulk and Skull get bored and decide to start Food Fight 2: This Time It's Personal! Everyone gets into it, even Ms. Appleby and Douchelan. Group laughs and episode ends.

--------------------------------

Well, this two-parter was...something. I mean, it wasn't terrible, but there were a few things that didn't make sense. Again, why didn't Rita use this plan before? The convenience of them all being in one place? What did the DragonZord have to do with the plan? Why could Dramole switch day and night so easily? It seems as though this was just more filler, but with a purpose: bring Tommy back. Which makes sense, since he's the most popular character. And now they have the perfect excuse for why he can't be there from the start! So the good news is that Tommy's back. The bad news is that we still have 10 more filler episodes to go. Joy. Anyway, watch these, but don't make it a high priority.
